Storm Water Manager/Administrator
Closes: 9/2/2017 : The City of Aiken Public Works Department is accepting applications for a Storm Water Manager/Administrator. Major Duties Include: Plans and manages City Storm Water Drainage System engineering projects, programs and operations to ensure planning, development and construction are in compliance with all applicable City/State/federal codes and regulations, and according to all acceptable engineering practices; develops, implements, evaluates and annually reports on the City’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Small Municipal Separate Sewer System (SMS4) Permit; assist with the preparation of plans and specifications for projects to be put out to bid; estimates materials and quantities; prepares specifications; advertises bids; assembles book; provides technical assistance regarding local, state and federal stormwater regulations to citizens, consultants, contractors, developers, staff, and other departments; resolves problems in the most cost effective manner; reviews developer's stormwater plans submitted for City approval; checks design standards and ensures project meets all applicable federal, state, and local requirements; resolves problems; assists in solution of stormwater infrastructure problems; maintains awareness of federal and state stormwater regulations as they apply to the City of Aiken; assists in implementing new policies and procedures as needed; works with various agencies and professional organizations; attends meetings as needed; assists with the prepararation of annual operating and capital budget recommendations; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with budget; performs field work, surveys and site inspections; directs and reviews engineering work in the construction, maintenance and repair of municipal Storm Water Drainage System; serves as project leader for city project teams; develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other City departments, outside vendors, and general public contacted in the course of work; attends meetings as needed; resolves complaints; reviews permits for compliance with sediment, stormwater, and erosion control and flood damage prevention ordinances and state laws; collects regulatory samples and analyzes data for compliance and special projects; prepares reports, papers, and other documents appropriate to the department; maintains and updates records and manuals; performs field inspections of projects and witnesses tests, etc. in absence of construction inspectors; supervises engineering technicians and utility crews as assigned to projects; attends seminars and studies written materials to maintain knowledge of current practices in the field; performs other related duties as required. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Earth Science or related field from an accredited college or university; two to three years related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; knowledge of stormwater management methods and materials, and NPDES MS4 permit requirements; valid state driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record; CEPSCI certification is required; CSPR certification is required; CFM preferred but not required. Qualifications: The position requires a High School diploma. Must also have calculator and computer skills. Salary is $12.60 an hour with no benefits. Accounting Intern
Closes: 8/31/2017 : The City of Aiken is accepting applications for a part time seasonal intern to work with the Finance Department. Intern will work with various finance staff and perform duties following established methods and procedures. Major duties include: Over the counter, through the drive-through or through the mail collect monies owed to the City including water payments, taxes, business license fees, and other related fees. Issue receipts as needed. Balance monies collected daily. This position will answer the telephone, take messages, forward messages to appropriate party, and respond to questions, concerns, or complaints from knowledge of the department. This position will also be given opportunity to work with professional staff on bank reconciliations, Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, accounts payable processing and other seasonal tasks. Qualifications: Must have a HS diploma or equivalent and be enrolled in college seeking a degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field. Salary is $9.20 per hour. This is a part time position with no benefits. This internship will be for approximately 12 weeks, working 15 – 20 hours per week.
